One hope that I have for working with children and families from a diverse background is that I want these families and children to realize that I am a woman that they can depend on to help them press their way through any situation that they might go through, and that I truly care what happens to them and their children.
One goal that I would like to set for the education field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice would be a Cultural Awareness Liaison for the school system in Turner Co. This person would have a multicultural educational background that would allow them to advocate for fairness in the schools for the children in the marginalized groups.
I would like to thank each and every last one of you for your feed backs on mt blog postings as well as on discussion postings. I have enjoyed this course and I leave truly believing that I have learned something that I can use in my career as an early childhood educator. Again thanks you guys for being there.
Sincerely,
Melanie
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your goals. Being a woman that families can trust and know that you are there for them will be a blessing to them
God bless you on your journey.
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you are welcoming to your students and to their families and will be there for them to provide them with additional support through out the year. I often say that I try to take what I don't like from the teachers/school that my son goes to and I try to be and do the opposite which is to provide families with warmth and the nurturing and words of encouragement they may need through out the course of the school year. And I am happy to see that you are doing more than educating you are also providing a nurturing environment which is just as important.
Keep up the good work.
Nicky
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of having a liaison for your schools that would help support families and children from diverse social groups. It is important that everyone feel accepted and embraced in our schools and that we as educators learn how to support each family's diverse needs.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes to you in future classes.

Melaine,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your idea regarding the "cultural awareness liaison". I believe that children and families need much more than an interpreter when coming into a new culture. This position would be beneficial in the lives of children and families from various cultures. Best wishes in all of your educational and professional endeavors!
